The End of Another Exciting Day

As the day nears its end, we retire to the house and rest our paws. The people are all sitting in the living room and we all pick a lap on which to sit. After all, my breed name, Bichon Frise, is French for "curly-haired lap dog," and now seems like a good time to live up to that name.

It's been a great day, and I can hardly wait until tomorrow morning for another exciting day full of everyday adventures.

Fun on the Farm

After a long afternoon on the farm, we dogs are exhausted. It is now colder outside, for the sun has gone almost completely down, and the day is ready to end. Maybe we should go inside now.

Sleeping In

It was especially cold outside this morning, so I decide to take refuge under a cover and warm up. The feeling is so relaxing that I get sleepy again and doze off.

A little while later I awake and realize that I can't waste the whole day away like this - surely there is something exciting just waiting for me!

Keeping Lookout

I decide to take a quick rest and watch from the window for a while. It is always interesting to me to see the outside, especially when other dogs and people walk by. I growl just a little bit, even though my person does not like it. Somebody's gotta let these canines know whose turf they're on!

I get scolded for growling and am not allowed to watch out the window for a while. I must find something else to do.

Looking for Squirrel

I know it's around here somewhere. I never see it move; it runs away when I'm not looking. Sometimes I find it peeking from under the couch; sometimes it will be right under my nose. Aha! And there it is, under the big table. Sometimes I try to get the people to play there, but they would rather eat. Eat. That sounds like a good idea. But first I have to show my person that I have indeed found Squirrel. I proudly run to her to display the torn and shaggy squirrel. I pulled the soft cottony insides out weeks ago. She wrestles Squirrel from me and holds it up high - too high for me to reach. But that doesn't stop me from jumping and trying to snatch it with my strong teeth anyway. I jump and jump and jump and jump... and HEY! Squirrel leaps from her hands and flies down the hallway. My determination tells my person, "Don't worry, I'll get it!" And off I go, retrieving Squirrel and proudly bringing it to my person again. I just wait for the thing to be brave enough to run away again, but I will go after it every time!

For some reason my person stops paying attention to squirrel, and I must find something else to do.

Arrival

We have come to my grandparents' house! I especially love going to my grandparents' house because I get to see my best friends. We run and play outside together on the farm and always have a great time. Once I am out of the car, I run outside and greet each of my friends, one at a time.

Howdy

And outside we go to chase each other and the other animals.

The Day Takes and Interesting Turn

Just as I am trying to decide which fun activity I can do next, I notice my person moving things around the apartment. Suddenly my instinct tells me that today might be different from most days. I feel intrigued and confused and perk my ears up and tilt my head to communicate to her this curiosity. What is she doing? I see bags and hear keys jingle, and I think I might know!

Sometimes my person starts gathering up things in our home. She puts everything in bags and zips them up. I watch her from the window carry everything to the car. At this point I know that I am going to get to go on a car ride! I never know where we are going, but I will gladly sit by my owner and wait for us to get there. I wonder where we are going this time?

The ride is long, and I sleep most of the way -

- but the car finally stops and I am so excited. Where are we?

My Options

I could hunt down the Squirrel.

I could keep lookout from the window.

I could go back to bed.

After I have given all of these activities a try, my attention is taken by something else.

The Hated Sweater

But this stays between you and me. (If anyone asks, I am a tough guy.)

It's time to get back to the story, anyhow. You came here to read about the fabulous everyday adventures of Mason the Dog! So, when my person and I come back inside from our morning walk, I get to choose the first fantastic adventure of the day. There are many options before me.

Going Outside

Like I said, being outside is probably what I love most. I am one with my surroundings, and I feel free and exuberant. Outside is where I can really just be a dog.

But sometimes it is very cold, and I have to wear extra gear because my breed is very small and more sensitive to elements as such.

The Start of Another Exciting Day

I hear that loud BEEP BEEP BEEP and know it is morning again. I am instantly excited because I know it will be another fun day. My person is still snoozing but eventually gets up and makes the BEEPs stop. She gets underneath the covers again, but I do not let her go back to sleep because I am so excited to go outside! I prance on the bed, I stand with my two front paws on her torso, I even lick her face - anything to get her to take me outside!

She is persistent to sleep in longer, but I am even more persistent - going outside is one of my favorite things to do! As soon as she stands up I am running for the door. Here I sit and wait for her to grab the leash and open the door. Finally she comes and latches my leash and opens the door, and we are going outside! Today is going to be another great day.
